Pediatric Weight Loss in Salt Lake City, Utah
Our providers at Advanced Medical Weight Loss are excited to offer weight-control programs for overweight and obese children age 5 and older, and for overweight and obese adolescents. We work together with our child and adolescent patients and their families to develop healthy eating and activity habits, decrease body-fat composition as they grow, improve body image and self-esteem, and improve health to prevent future adverse health consequences. We recognize that children and adolescents can’t just be treated like small adults when it comes to weight control.
Information About Pediatric Weight Loss
At their first visit, our child and adolescent patients and their parents meet with one of our trained providers and are instructed on the causes of obesity, how child and adolescent patients are classified into the Muse Satiety Types 1 to 5, the diet that will be used to cause weight maintenance, or weight-loss, if needed. Special attention is paid to teaching our child and adolescent patients and their parents the difficulties of and solutions to long-term weight maintenance. Family counseling is an essential part of our child and adolescent weight-control and weight-loss programs at Advanced Medical Weight Loss.
Child and adolescent patients must have an initial exam by one of our providers, laboratory tests and an EKG before they can begin a weight-control or weight-loss program.
Patients are seen on a frequent basis to track their progress.
When appropriate, certain medications can be prescribed to our child and adolescent patients to assist with hunger control and with compliance with our prescribed diets. The medications that might be prescribed for our child and adolescent weight-loss patients in Salt Lake City and Sandy are remarkably safe, especially when compared to the risks associated with remaining obese. Not only are these medications safe and effective, they are also not addictive. When making the decision whether or not to prescribe weight-control medications to overweight children and adolescents, the providers in our office carefully follow the pediatric-obesity guidelines of the Obesity Medicine Association and the laws of the state of Utah that govern the use of some of these medications.
